Turkey Registers Phones, Not SIM Cards. That Rule Still Reaches Your Turkey eSIM.

Turkey switched on 5G in April 2026 and tightened its phone registration rules a month later. Both change what you should buy. Here is what we sell, what it connects to, and what we could not verify. Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadocia, Izmir, Ankara, Bodrum and Fethiye are the same line item at the same price. Antalya eSIM is a common search, and so is Cappadocia eSIM. Neither is a separate product in Turkey.

Compare Every Turkey Plan Here

Eighty eight plans for Turkey. That is the number the plan list above shows, and it counts both Turkey only plans and wider regional plans that include Turkey, because you can buy either from this page. Figures come from the live plan list and change when suppliers reprice.

Roamify: the cheapest data, at 0.48 dollars per gigabyte

About 0.48 dollars per gigabyte at best value, the lowest rate on this page. Entry from 2.02 dollars, validity 1 to 30 days. Unlimited options available.

Airalo: the widest unlimited choice

More unlimited plans than anything else on this page. Entry from 5.50 dollars, about 0.69 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 5 to 180 days.

Telcovision: the outlier, from 11.04 dollars

Entry here starts at 11.04 dollars, more than ten times the cheapest entry on this page at 0.92.

Esimaccess: the lowest entry price, 0.92 dollars

The lowest entry price on this page at 0.92 dollars. About 0.48 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 180 days. No unlimited option.

The IMEI Rule: Turkey Registers Phones, Not SIM Cards

Almost certainly not your problem. This rule bites at 120 days, which is about four months, and a normal holiday is nowhere near that. Read this section if you are staying a season, skip it if you are staying a fortnight. Here is the rule itself. Turkey operates a central device registry, and a handset brought in from abroad works for 120 days before it is cut off from Turkish networks unless the owner registers it and pays the fee. For 2026 that fee is 54,258 lira, set by the 98th Harclar Kanunu general communique published in the Official Gazette on 31 December 2025. We are not converting it to dollars because the rate moves; it is reset every 1 January in line with the official revaluation rate, so check the current figure rather than this one if you are reading in a later year. The registry is run by the BTK, the telecoms regulator. You can read your own IMEI by dialling star hash 06 hash and check its status on the e-Devlet portal.

What changed on 1 May 2026

People used to stretch the 120 days by shifting a line between the two slots of a dual-SIM or eSIM handset. The BTK closed that with a regulation effective 1 May 2026, and devices flagged for unauthorised IMEI registrations lose network access unless the official fee is paid. Separately, customs allows one phone per passport every three years.

Where publication stops

We cannot confirm whether the 120-day clock runs while you are using a foreign eSIM instead of a Turkish line. The BTK describes the period as beginning on the date of entry, which reads as a rule about the device. The loophole that was closed involved two Turkish lines, which reads as a rule about the subscription. Every source we found claiming that an eSIM sidesteps the rule sells eSIMs, so we do not count those as evidence. If you are staying longer than 120 days, check your own IMEI on e-Devlet rather than trusting anyone's article, ours included.

What holds either way

The registry tracks the handset, not the SIM, so switching to an eSIM will not revive a phone that is already blocked. Buying an eSIM from us does not open a Turkish subscription in your name, because everything we sell for Turkey is a roaming profile rather than a Turkish line. For a holiday of two or three weeks none of this touches you.

Turkey Switched On 5G in April 2026, and We Still Will Not Promise It

Turkey held its 5G auction in 2025 and the three operators, Turkcell, Vodafone Turkiye and Turk Telekom, began commercial 5G service on 1 April 2026. The licences run to the end of 2042. Service started in provincial centres across all 81 provinces at once, with nationwide coverage targeted within two years. The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure put the number of 5G capable devices in Turkey at about 32 million in April 2026, against more than 29 million 5G subscriptions. In October 2025 the same ministry said 85 million subscribers used a phone and only 22 million of those phones were 5G capable.

Our own catalogue does not agree with itself

Fifteen of our Turkey records are filed as 5G by the supplier. Every one of those fifteen is a duplicate copy of a record the same supplier files as 4G. The same plan, two entries, two different answers. No record names a Turkish operator either. That is a gap in what suppliers publish to us rather than a measurement of what your phone will do. Your eSIM may well pick up 5G in Istanbul. We have no data that lets us promise it, so we are not going to.

The network you are joining

Turkey had 76.9 million active LTE subscribers at the end of the first quarter of 2026. Whichever of the three operators your eSIM lands on, 4G in populated areas is dense and fast enough for anything a traveller does.

Northern Cyprus Is Sold Separately, and We Will Not Map the Rest

We are not going to tell you where Turkish coverage thins. No supplier we buy from publishes per region coverage for wholesale plans, and the regulator coverage query is behind a Turkish ID login, so it is closed to a visitor. Guessing from terrain and population is not evidence, so we have taken that guesswork out. What follows is the one coverage fact our own catalogue actually settles.

Northern Cyprus is not included

A Turkey plan is sold for Turkey. Northern Cyprus is a separate destination in every supplier catalogue we carry, listed under its own code with six plans of its own, and we sell it on its own page. If Northern Cyprus is part of the trip, buy that plan as well.

How Much Data a Coast to Cappadocia Trip Uses

Most travellers buy too much. Maps, messaging, translation and ride hailing are light. Video is not. The numbers below are our estimate from typical usage patterns, not a measurement, so treat them as a starting point.

A week of ordinary use

Navigation, WhatsApp, translation, photographs to the family group and some browsing comes to roughly 3 to 5 GB across a week for most people. If you are posting video every day or tethering a laptop, double it. At eSIMGo's best value that is under three dollars of data.

Two things that quietly drain a plan

Automatic photo backup and app updates over mobile data. Turn both off before you fly and a 5 GB plan lasts a fortnight instead of five days. This one change saves more money than choosing a different supplier.

About unlimited

Thirty-four of the 88 Turkey plans we carry are sold as unlimited. Read the fair use terms before you assume unlimited means unlimited at full speed, because most of them slow down after a daily threshold. Where the supplier publishes that threshold it appears in the plan detail.

What to Do Before You Buy and When You Land

Three things to check, and none of them takes longer than a minute.

Check the handset first

Your phone must support eSIM and must not be locked to a carrier. Dial star hash 06 hash. If an EID appears alongside the IMEI, the phone supports eSIM. If you are on a contract handset from a network at home, check the lock status before you buy anything.

Install before you fly

Install the profile while you still have working internet at home. Most plans begin counting when the eSIM first attaches to a network in Turkey rather than when you install it, but the plan detail on each product says which. Installing after you land means finding airport wifi first.

Your own number keeps working

The eSIM adds a data line. Your usual SIM stays in the phone and keeps receiving calls and texts on your normal number, so bank verification codes still arrive. Leave data roaming switched off on your home line so it cannot quietly bill you.
