Moldavië eSIM

No supplier publishes which Moldovan network a plan roams onto, and naming one would be a guess dressed as a fact. ANRCETI, the regulator, publishes market statistics rather than a coverage map of internet in Moldova, so there is no coverage percentage to quote. Its market review recorded fewer active SIM cards carrying noticeably more data traffic, a market adapting to heavier use. For a visitor streaming video from a Chisinau hotel, that is broadly good news. Nobody publishes signal data for the rural roads, the Dniester valley or the villages away from the main routes. Download offline maps before leaving Chisinau, and treat that as ordinary practice rather than caution. We do not promise 5G on any Moldova plan, and an eSIM in Moldova handles maps, messaging and internet calls without extra setup. Data roaming in Moldova on your home line is billed under your own carrier's terms, so switch cellular data off on that line before the drive in from Iasi. Cell phone service in Moldova on your normal number keeps calls and texts coming in from home, charged by your own carrier. Overland arrivals from Romania are common, and since most plans here cover Moldova only, a Romanian leg needs its own plan.

Whether you fly into Chisinau or drive in from Romania, first check that the phone supports eSIM and is not carrier locked, the usual reason a purchase proves unusable. Dial star hash 06 hash and look for an EID below the IMEI, which takes less time than any shop queue in Chisinau. Install the profile at home on a connection you trust, since installation and activation are separate steps. Most plans start counting only on first connection inside Moldova, so a Romanian leg before the border does not eat into them. Validity runs in calendar days from activation, so give the plan a day of margin beyond the trip. At Chisinau airport or after the border post, switch the Moldova line on and turn on data roaming for that line alone. On iPhone that switch sits under Cellular inside the travel plan, and the home line has its own separate switch. The profile stays tied to the handset, so it cannot be handed to a friend whose phone gave out on a winery tour. A Moldova SIM card bought locally is the route to a Moldovan number, and it means a shop visit and registration. That Moldova prepaid SIM card suits a long stay, while an eSIM card for Moldova covers a visit without either. No plan here includes calls or texts, so set up internet calling before you go, since arranging things outside the capital is often done by voice.
