A Local SIM in the Philippines Wants Your Passport and Your Hotel Booking, and a Philippines eSIM From Us Does Not
Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Siargao, El Nido and Bohol need one purchase between them, not several. The reason most visitors end up on this page is not the price though, it is the paperwork attached to the local alternative. Type Manila eSIM into a search box and this page is what you want; the same is true of Cebu.
Compare Every Plan for the Philippines
Forty four plans for the Philippines. That is the number the plan list above shows, and it counts both the Philippines only plans and wider regional plans that include the Philippines, because you can buy either from this page. Figures come from the live plan list and change when suppliers reprice.
Roamify: the cheapest data, at 0.77 dollars per gigabyte
About 0.77 dollars per gigabyte at best value, the lowest rate on this page. Entry from 1.67 dollars, validity 1 to 15 days. Unlimited options available.
Airalo: the widest unlimited choice
More unlimited plans than anything else on this page. Entry from 6.50 dollars, about 0.89 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 180 days.
Esimgo: the outlier, from 86.45 dollars
Entry here starts at 86.45 dollars, more than ten times the cheapest entry on this page at 1.67. It also sells a single duration, so there is nothing smaller to step down to.
Esimaccess: the lowest entry price, 1.70 dollars
The lowest entry price on this page at 1.70 dollars. About 0.99 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 180 days. No unlimited option.
Telcovision: a full year on one purchase, 51.99 dollars
One plan only, 365 days at 51.99 dollars, about 2.60 dollars per gigabyte. Nothing else on this page runs past 180 days. It is the longest option and the dearest per gigabyte at the same time.
What SIM Registration Actually Requires
This is the practical difference between buying locally and buying here, and it is worth knowing before you land.
Republic Act 11934
Since 2022 every SIM sold in the Philippines must be registered before it works. Each one is sold inactive. For a visitor on a tourist visa that means a passport with the photo page and visa stamp, proof of address such as a hotel or Airbnb booking, and a return ticket.
And it expires in 30 days
A tourist registration runs 30 days from the date you register. Staying longer means producing visa extension paperwork, or the SIM is deactivated automatically.
Travel eSIMs are outside that
An international travel eSIM carries no Philippine number, so the registration requirement does not attach to it. Local eSIMs from Globe, Smart or DITO do have to be registered, exactly like a physical SIM.
Three Networks, and We Cannot Tell You Which
The Philippines has three mobile network operators.
Globe, Smart and DITO
Knowing the names does not tell you what you will get. No supplier here publishes which network a plan roams onto, and it can change without notice.
Seven Thousand Islands, One Product
The geography raises a question the pricing answers simply.
No per island plan
Manila, Cebu, Boracay, Palawan, Siargao, El Nido and Bohol are not priced apart, and no supplier here sells an island level plan for the Philippines.
The gap in the published record
How a plan behaves on the smaller islands, on a ferry, or on a dive boat is not something any supplier publishes. There is no coverage section on this page for that reason rather than a guess presented as guidance.
How Much Data an Island Trip Uses
Most visitors combine a city arrival with two or three islands.
Maps, messaging and booking
Navigation, messaging and booking ferries and flights across two weeks fits inside a mid size bundle for most people.
Working from the islands
If you are working remotely, compare the unlimited options against a large metered bundle rather than assuming the bigger number wins.
Two Things to Settle Before Manila
Two steps, both easier at home than at the airport.
Install before departure
Download and install the eSIM on a connection you trust. Activation on arrival is fine, installation on arrival is what goes wrong.
Check the handset
The phone has to support eSIM and be unlocked. Our device list covers the models that do.
