Singapore Switched Off 3G in 2024, So an Old Handset May Not Attach at All Even With a Singapore eSIM
Singapore is one city and one product, so there is no district pricing to compare and no separate Sentosa or Orchard plan to look for. The thing that actually decides whether your trip goes smoothly here is not the plan, it is the handset. A traveller after a Changi eSIM and a traveller after a Marina Bay eSIM need the same thing, and it is here.
Compare Every Plan for Singapore
Forty eight plans for Singapore. That is the number the plan list above shows, and it counts both Singapore only plans and wider regional plans that include Singapore, because you can buy either from this page. Figures come from the live plan list and change when suppliers reprice.
Roamify: the cheapest data, at 0.31 dollars per gigabyte
About 0.31 dollars per gigabyte at best value, the lowest rate on this page. Entry from 1.28 dollars, validity 1 to 30 days. Unlimited options available.
Airalo: the widest unlimited choice
More unlimited plans than anything else on this page. Entry from 6.00 dollars, about 0.89 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 180 days.
Esimaccess: the lowest entry price, 1.10 dollars
The lowest entry price on this page at 1.10 dollars. About 0.97 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 180 days. No unlimited option.
Telcovision: the outlier, from 51.99 dollars
Entry here starts at 51.99 dollars, more than ten times the cheapest entry on this page at 1.10.
Both Legacy Networks Are Gone
This matters more in Singapore than in most destinations, because the shutdowns are finished rather than planned.
3G ended in 2024, 2G in 2017
The Infocomm Media Development Authority oversaw the retirement of 3G services in July 2024, affecting roughly 100,000 subscribers, most of them migrant workers and lower income users on older handsets. 2G had already been switched off back in 2017. There is no fallback layer left.
What that means for you
A handset that relies on 3G will not find a network to fall back to. If your phone is old enough that 4G is not certain, that is the thing to check before you buy any plan, ours included.
Four Networks, and Which One a Card Uses Is Not Stated
Singapore has four mobile network operators: Singtel, StarHub, M1 and Simba. Knowing the names does not tell you what you will get.
The roaming agreement is not published
No card on this page publishes which of the four it attaches to, and it can change without notice. Anyone naming one specifically is going beyond what the plan says.
One City, One Price
Singapore is a city state, which removes a whole category of question.
No district level product
There is no separate plan for Orchard, Marina Bay, Sentosa or Changi, and no supplier here sells one. The same purchase covers the island.
How Much Data a Short Stopover Uses
A large share of visitors here are on a two or three day stopover, and the plan sizes reflect that.
Stopovers and city breaks
Maps, messaging and a few rideshare bookings across a long weekend fit comfortably inside a small bundle. The one and three day options exist for exactly this.
Longer stays
If you are here for a fortnight or working from the city, compare the unlimited options against a large metered bundle before assuming the bigger number is better value.
Before You Land at Changi
Two things to settle before departure.
Install at home
Download and install the eSIM while you are on a connection you trust. Activation on arrival is normal, installation on arrival is what goes wrong.
Confirm 4G support
Given the 3G shutdown, this is the one destination where checking the handset matters more than checking the plan. Our device list covers the models that support eSIM.
