Il tuo dispositivo potrebbe comunque supportare l'eSIM. Componi *#06# — se vedi un numero EID, sei a posto.
Note importanti
Does Your Phone Support eSIM? Check the Handset, Not the Model Name
The fastest answer is not a list. Open your phone's cellular settings and look for an option to add an eSIM or add a plan. If it is there, the handset supports eSIM, whatever a model list says. This matters because the same model name can ship with eSIM in one country and without it in another, so the phone in your hand is a better source than any table.
The Check, Step by Step
Both checks take under a minute and neither needs an internet connection. You are looking for the option to exist, not for it to do anything yet.
On iPhone
Open Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Service. If you see Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan, the handset supports eSIM. Apple publishes the cutoff separately: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR and later.
On Android
Open Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs or Mobile network. Look for Add eSIM, Download a SIM instead, or a plus button beside your existing line. Wording varies by manufacturer and Android version, but the option is always in the same area.
The dial code shortcut
Dialling star hash zero six hash shows your device identifiers. If an EID is listed alongside the IMEI, the handset has eSIM hardware. No EID means no eSIM, and that is a hardware fact rather than a setting.
The Option Is Missing. Now What?
A missing option has three ordinary causes and they are worth separating, because two of them are fixable and one is not.
The handset genuinely has no eSIM
iPhone X and earlier fall here, and Apple's specification for iPhone 8 lists nano-SIM only. On Android, budget and older mid-range models frequently ship without the component. Nothing can be enabled, because the part is absent.
The software is too old
On a handset that does support eSIM, an old operating system version can hide the option. Update the phone and check again before concluding anything.
The phone is carrier locked
A locked handset can support eSIM and still refuse a profile from another network. Only the carrier that locked it can unlock it, usually once the contract or device payment is finished. This is a separate question from eSIM support and both have to pass.
What the Check Cannot Tell You
The settings check answers whether the hardware is there. It does not answer which local network a travel plan will use, because that pairing is not published on the plans themselves, and it does not tell you whether your existing line will keep working alongside a second profile.
Two lines at once
Apple states that supported iPhone models can hold two eSIMs active at the same time and store eight or more. Android varies by manufacturer, and some models allow one eSIM alongside one physical SIM rather than two eSIMs.
Your own number keeps working
Leaving your home line enabled with its cellular data switched off means calls and texts to your usual number still arrive while every byte goes through the travel plan. That single setting is what separates a few dollars from a roaming bill.
Where the eSIM option lives
| Device | Path in settings | What you are looking for |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Settings, then Cellular or Mobile Service | Add eSIM or Add Cellular Plan |
| Samsung Galaxy | Settings, then Connections, then SIM manager | Add eSIM |
| Google Pixel | Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs | Download a SIM instead |
| Other Android | Settings, then Network and internet, then Mobile network | A plus button beside the existing line |
| Any device | Dial star hash zero six hash | An EID listed beside the IMEI |
Three reasons the option is missing
| Cause | Fixable | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No eSIM hardware | No | Check the EID. If absent, the handset cannot take one |
| Operating system out of date | Yes | Update the phone, then check again |
| Carrier locked | Yes, by the carrier | Ask the carrier that sold it to unlock |
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my phone is an eSIM?
Open your cellular settings and look for an option to add an eSIM or add a plan. If it is there the handset supports eSIM. A faster confirmation is to dial star hash zero six hash: if an EID appears beside the IMEI, the hardware is present.
How do I check if my phone is eSIM compatible on Android?
Open Settings, then Network and internet, then SIMs or Mobile network, and look for Add eSIM or Download a SIM instead. The wording changes between manufacturers and Android versions, but the option always sits in the same area beside your existing line.
What to do if my phone is not eSIM compatible?
Check the three causes in order before giving up, because two of them are fixable. Update the operating system first, since an old version can hide the option on a handset that does support eSIM. If the EID is missing entirely the hardware is absent and nothing can be enabled.
Why is my phone not accepting eSIM?
The usual cause is a carrier lock rather than missing hardware, and the two look identical from the outside. A locked handset can be fully eSIM capable and still refuse a profile from another network. Only the carrier that applied the lock can remove it.
Which eSIM works on locked phones?
No travel plan works on a carrier locked handset, whoever sells it. The lock blocks profiles from other networks at the device level, so this is not something a plan can be built around. Ask the carrier that sold the phone to unlock it, usually possible once the contract or handset payment is complete.
Do I turn off my primary line when using eSIM?
You turn off its cellular data, not the line itself. Leaving the line active with data switched off means your own number still rings and receives texts while every byte goes through the travel eSIM. This is the setting most travellers get wrong on the first day.
What happens if I delete eSIM?
Deleting a profile is permanent on most plans and the same QR code cannot usually be scanned twice. Apple states that a supported iPhone stores eight or more profiles, so there is rarely a reason to delete one to make room. Keep the old profile installed and simply switch which lines are active.
Can I use an eSIM and a physical SIM at the same time?
On most eSIM capable handsets yes, and that is the normal setup for a trip: home line on the physical SIM for calls, travel data on the eSIM. Apple states that supported iPhone models can also hold two eSIMs active at once, while Android varies by manufacturer.
