Chilean Connections Average 28.6 GB a Month. Size Your eSIM Knowing That.
Chile is a heavy data country by any measure, and the most useful thing we can tell you before you buy is what normal consumption there actually looks like, because most travel bundles are sized for a much lighter habit. Looking for a Santiago eSIM, or a Valparaiso eSIM? One Chile plan covers both, at one price.
Compare Every Plan for Chile
Forty four plans for Chile. That is the number the plan list above shows, and it counts both Chile only plans and wider regional plans that include Chile, because you can buy either from this page. Figures come from the live plan list and change when suppliers reprice.
Roamify: the cheapest data, at 1.47 dollars per gigabyte
About 1.47 dollars per gigabyte at best value, the lowest rate on this page. Entry from 4.01 dollars, validity 1 to 30 days. Unlimited options available.
Airalo: the widest unlimited choice
More unlimited plans than anything else on this page. Entry from 11.00 dollars, about 2.40 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 30 days.
Esimfly: the lowest entry price, 3.25 dollars
The lowest entry price on this page at 3.25 dollars. About 3.25 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 7 days. No unlimited option.
Esimaccess: validity out to 180 days
No other plan listed here lasts 180 days. Entry from 5.02 dollars, about 2.12 dollars per gigabyte at best value. No unlimited option.
What Chile Actually Uses, and Why It Changes the Size You Buy
The Chilean regulator publishes unusually detailed sector figures, and they are worth reading before you decide what size plan to buy.
Chilean phones use far more data than a travel bundle assumes
The Subsecretaria de Telecomunicaciones, Subtel, reported 24.0 million mobile voice subscribers at December 2025 and 9,698,786 5G connections, roughly two in five of all mobile connections. The figure that matters for a purchase is traffic: 28.6 GB per mobile connection. Most travel bundles are sized for a small fraction of that, which is the argument for buying larger here than you would elsewhere.
Which of them your plan uses
Unknown, as everywhere in this catalogue. No card here names the local operator it roams onto, and the field that would carry it is identical across every product in the catalogue. Chile has four substantial networks, Entel, Wom, Claro and Movistar, and which one you land on is not part of the purchase.
Where a National Figure Stops Meaning Anything
Chile runs from the driest desert on earth to the glaciers of Patagonia, and the population is concentrated in the middle. Any single national statistic averages across that, and the average describes almost nowhere a visitor actually goes.
The middle is not the country
Population and infrastructure are concentrated in the centre of the country. A national penetration or 5G figure is largely a statement about them. It says very little about the Atacama, the Lake District, Chiloe or the far south, and nothing at all about how service changes as you move between them.
And nobody publishes the routes
There is no published signal data for the Carretera Austral, the Torres del Paine circuits, the altiplano roads above San Pedro or the crossings into Argentina. Those are exactly the parts of a Chilean itinerary where connectivity becomes a real question, and we are not going to estimate them from a national figure. Download offline maps for the whole route before you leave Santiago.
Sizing Against a 28.6 GB Habit
That figure is the most practically useful thing on this page, and it cuts in two directions at once. Santiago and Punta Arenas are thousands of kilometres apart and cost exactly the same, because Chile is sold as one country. Valparaiso and Puerto Varas sit in between on the same plan.
You are not a local, but you are not far off
A Chilean connection averaging 28.6 GB a month is running video, music and navigation continuously on mobile data. A visitor on wifi in hotels will use much less than that. But a visitor driving between regions, navigating all day and streaming on long road stretches will use far more than the 3 to 5 GB that a short trip bundle typically offers. If your trip involves distance, look at the larger capped bundles or the unlimited plans rather than the default small one.
Which is why the 3 GB ceiling matters
Some of the cards here cap out at 3 GB or less. In a country with these consumption patterns and these distances, that is worth checking against how long you are staying before you buy.
Before the Road South
Three things decide whether the plan you bought is the plan you can use, and none of them can be fixed after you land.
Phone, profile, days
Your phone must support eSIM and must not be carrier locked, which is the single most common reason a purchase turns out to be unusable. Install the profile at home while you still have a connection you trust: installation and activation are separate steps, so it does not start the validity period. Our installation guide walks through the iPhone and Android steps at esimcenter.com/setup. Then match the day count to the trip with a day of margin, because validity runs in calendar days from activation rather than days of use. Patagonian routes cross into Argentina regularly, and these plans stop at the border.
Where a Chilean Plan Ends
These are data plans. Two consequences follow, and they cover most of what people ask afterwards.
Calls, messages and your own number
None of these plans include calls or texts over the mobile network, and none provides a Chilean number. Internet calling works normally, and it is worth setting up before you go, since bookings in the south are often arranged by voice. Keep the home SIM active for your own number, data roaming off.
Tethering, and what happens when it runs out
Tethering works and draws on the same allowance, so a laptop will move through a bundle much faster than a phone will. When the data is gone the connection simply stops, with no per megabyte charge afterwards. Buying a replacement needs a connection, which is the awkward part, so installing a second small plan before you travel is cheap insurance: an installed plan costs nothing until you activate it.
