Georgia the Country, Not the State, and What a Georgia eSIM Actually Costs

Buy a prepaid data plan for Georgia, install it before you fly, and land connected in Tbilisi, Batumi or Kutaisi. Tbilisi and Batumi have their own pages on this site, and both sell the country plan you see here. Kutaisi, Kazbegi and Gudauri have no separate product and need none. A Kutaisi eSIM, a Mestia eSIM: one purchase, made on this page.

Compare Every Plan for Georgia

The plan list above shows every Georgia plan we sell, and it counts both Georgia only plans and wider regional plans that include Georgia, because you can buy either from this page. Prices and lengths come from the live list and change when suppliers reprice.

Roamify: the cheapest data in the list above

The lowest rate per gigabyte on this page, across the full spread of lengths, with unlimited options available. It is not the cheapest way in.

Esimfly: a single 30 day option

One duration only, a month, with no shorter or longer version. Its entry price and its rate per gigabyte both sit in the middle of the page. No unlimited option.

Esimaccess: the lowest entry price in the list above

The cheapest way onto this page, on a single week long card holding one gigabyte, which is why its entry price and its rate per gigabyte are the same figure. No unlimited option.

Airalo: the outlier

Entry here starts many times above the cheapest entry on this page.

Telcovision: the only year long plan on this page

One plan, a full year. The next longest option here runs six months. Length is the whole argument for it; on cost per gigabyte it is the weakest on the page.

Georgian Carriers: Magticom, Silknet and Beeline

Georgia has three mobile operators, and people often search for them by name before they search for an eSIM at all.

How the three compare

Magticom, usually written Magti, is the largest and carries the broadest national network, including much of the mountain road system. Silknet, which has owned the Geocell brand since 2018, is strong in Tbilisi and the larger towns. Beeline is the smallest of the three and is best treated as backup coverage rather than a first choice.

Which one your plan uses

That depends on the roaming agreement behind the plan you buy, and suppliers do not publish the mapping. Nothing published answers it, so it does not enter the comparison. If connecting to a specific Georgian operator matters to you, a local prepaid SIM bought in country is the only way to choose it directly.

Where the Signal Thins Out in the Mountains

Most of Georgia that travellers visit is well covered. The exceptions are worth knowing before you drive, because they are exactly the places people go. What follows is a general expectation based on terrain and where people live. It is not an operator coverage map, because suppliers do not publish per-region coverage for wholesale plans, so treat it as guidance rather than a guarantee.

Svaneti and Tusheti

Mestia has coverage. The valleys and trekking routes beyond it do not, in patches, and Tusheti is the most isolated region reachable by road in the country. Treat both as offline once you leave the main settlement, and carry your route and accommodation details downloaded rather than on a live map.

Kazbegi and the Georgian Military Highway

Stepantsminda, still widely called Kazbegi, is covered. The climb to Gergeti and the higher passes on the Military Highway are less reliable, and the road itself has stretches with no signal between towns. Winter closures are announced locally rather than online, so ask before you set out.

Border areas

Near the administrative boundaries with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, handsets sometimes latch onto a network from the other side. Watch what your phone connects to, because an unexpected network can leave your plan unusable until you move on.

How Much Data You Need in Georgia

Georgia is cheap enough per gigabyte that buying slightly more than you need costs very little.

Light and heavy use

Maps, messaging and the occasional upload are light. Video calls home and streaming are not. A week in Tbilisi and Batumi with offline maps downloaded in advance sits at the low end of the range on this page. A mountain trip with daily uploads sits higher.

Why the cheap per gigabyte rate matters here

On this page the best rate is low enough that the difference between a small plan and a comfortable one is often a couple of dollars. That is not true in most destinations, and it changes the sensible choice.

Before You Buy

Three things are worth checking before you pay, and all three take a minute.

Compatibility

Your handset must support eSIM and must not be carrier locked. Most phones released in the last few years qualify, but a locked device will refuse the profile even if the hardware supports it. Check with your operator if you are not certain.

Activation and delivery

The QR code is emailed after purchase. Install it while you still have Wi-Fi, because installation needs a connection and activation does not. The plan starts counting when the eSIM first connects to a network in Georgia, not when you install it.

Duration and validity

Plans here run from one day to thirty. Validity is fixed at purchase and does not pause if you leave the country and come back. Pick the length that covers your last day, not your average day.

Using the eSIM in Georgia

Once the line is live, three practical points come up more than any others.

Calls, SMS and your home number

These are data plans. They do not carry a Georgian number and cannot send or receive regular SMS. Calls go through internet apps. Leave your home SIM active alongside the eSIM so bank codes still reach you, with mobile data on that line switched off.

Hotspot and tethering

Tethering to a laptop or a second phone works, and the data comes out of the same allowance. Georgia is a common base for remote workers, and the larger plans on this page are priced with that in mind.

Leaving Georgia for Armenia or Azerbaijan

A Georgia plan stops working at the border. Regional plans covering several countries in the Caucasus are sold separately, and buying one before a multi country trip is cheaper than buying two country plans.
