Validity on the United States Cards Runs From One Day to a Full Year

The United States has the largest catalogue on this site and the widest range of plan lengths anywhere in it, running from a single day to a full year, which makes choosing badly here easier than in most countries. There is no separate New York, Miami or Los Angeles plan, and the same purchase covers Las Vegas, Chicago, Orlando, San Francisco and Boston as well. If you are searching for a New York eSIM or a Miami eSIM, this is the page.

Compare Every Plan for the USA

Sixty three plans for the United States. That is the number the plan list above shows, and it counts both the United States only plans and wider regional plans that include the United States, because you can buy either from this page. Figures come from the live plan list and change when suppliers reprice.

Roamify: the cheapest data, at 0.75 dollars per gigabyte

About 0.75 dollars per gigabyte at best value, the lowest rate on this page. Entry from 2.13 dollars, validity 1 to 30 days. Unlimited options available.

Airalo: validity out to 365 days

365 days, the top of the range on this page. Entry from 10.50 dollars, about 1.18 dollars per gigabyte at best value. Unlimited options available.

Telcovision: the broadest range, 30 to 365 days

The broadest range of plan sizes on this page. Entry from 11.04 dollars, about 1.08 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 30 to 365 days. No unlimited option.

Esimaccess: the lowest entry price, 1.50 dollars

The lowest entry price on this page at 1.50 dollars. About 0.87 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 1 to 180 days. No unlimited option.

The Plan That Lasts a Year

Duration is where the United States catalogue differs from everything else we sell, and it is worth understanding before you default to a 30 day plan. The Federal Communications Commission names the four largest mobile carriers as AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile, UScellular and Verizon.

Why a year matters more than it sounds

Most travel plans expire at 30 days regardless of unused data. Validity here runs as far as 365 days on the Airalo and Telcovision cards. For anyone who visits the United States more than once a year, for work or family, a single long validity plan replaces buying a new one each trip, and the unused allowance carries between visits rather than being written off.

For a single trip, ignore it

If you are going once, for two weeks, the year long option is not for you and paying for duration you will not use is a straightforward waste. Pick the shortest validity that covers the trip with a day of margin. The point of mentioning the year is that it exists, not that it is the default.

Coverage Maps That Admit Speed Is Part of Coverage

The United States publishes better mobile coverage data than almost anywhere, and the useful part is the definitions rather than the headline.

What the FCC map actually distinguishes

The National Broadband Map published by the Federal Communications Commission shows 3G, 4G and 5G coverage and lets you compare what different mobile providers report. Two details make it more honest than most coverage maps. First, it separates outdoor stationary coverage from in vehicle coverage, which are genuinely different things and matter on a road trip. Second, it filters 5G at two defined speed levels, 35 by 3 Mbps and above, and 7 by 1 Mbps and above, rather than treating 5G as a single yes or no. A map that tells you which kind of 5G it means is doing something most do not.

And you can argue with it

If the coverage shown does not match what you get, the FCC allows consumers to dispute it by taking outdoor or in vehicle speed tests. A coverage dataset with a public challenge process attached is a stronger thing than an unchallengeable operator map, and it is worth knowing that the numbers you are reading have been tested against.

Sizing for Distance

A United States trip is usually defined by driving, and that shapes data use more than the length of the trip does.

Navigation runs for hours, not minutes

On a road trip, maps run continuously for the whole driving day, and interstate stretches between towns are long. That is still modest in absolute data terms, but it is steady and it is the floor under everything else. Add music or podcast streaming, which is near universal on American drives, and the total climbs quickly.

National parks are where it stops

Even with the best coverage data in the world, the interior of Yellowstone, the canyon floors in Utah and long stretches of desert highway are places where you will have no signal. That is not a defect in the plan. Download offline maps for your whole route before you set off, and treat park days as offline days.

Before the Long Drive

Three things decide whether the plan you bought is the plan you can use, and none of them can be fixed after you land.

Phone, profile, days

Your phone must support eSIM and must not be carrier locked, which is the single most common reason a purchase turns out to be unusable. Install the profile at home while you still have a connection you trust: installation and activation are separate steps, so it does not start the validity period. Our installation guide walks through the iPhone and Android steps at esimcenter.com/setup. Then match the day count to the trip with a day of margin, because validity runs in calendar days from activation rather than days of use. And if you will return within the year, compare the long validity options against buying again each trip.

No US Number, and What Else

These are data plans. Two consequences follow, and they cover most of what people ask afterwards.

Calls, messages and your own number

None of these plans include calls or texts over the mobile network, and crucially none of them gives you a United States number. That matters more here than almost anywhere, because some domestic services, delivery apps and verification systems expect a local number. Internet calling works normally, but if a US number is what you actually need, a data plan is not the product.

Tethering, and what happens when it runs out

Tethering works and draws on the same allowance, so a laptop will move through a bundle much faster than a phone will. When the data is gone the connection simply stops, with no per megabyte charge afterwards. Buying a replacement needs a connection, which is the awkward part, so installing a second small plan before you travel is cheap insurance: an installed plan costs nothing until you activate it.
