Nigéria eSIM

To buy an eSIM for Nigeria, first check the phone by typing star hash 06 hash, since an EID next to the IMEI shows the hardware is there. It also has to be unlocked, and a phone still tied to its carrier cannot take the profile whatever you buy. Checkout delivers a QR code, and the install belongs at home on a connection you trust, because installing at the airport is what goes wrong. Most plans only start counting days on first contact with a Nigerian network, so installing a week before the Lagos flight wastes none of the validity. Once the plane is on the ground in Lagos, turn the travel line on, enable data roaming for it, and toggle airplane mode if it does not attach at once. No registration step waits for you on Nigerian soil, which is the main contrast with a local line. An eSIM card for Nigeria belongs to the handset it was installed on, so a replacement phone would need a fresh plan. A Nigeria SIM card from a local operator needs registration and a local address, and MTN also sells its own local eSIM inside the country. For a stay of several months, a Nigeria prepaid SIM card is worth pricing against a travel plan. For a fortnight of meetings or less, an e-SIM for Nigeria is the quicker route.

Nigeria has several national mobile networks, MTN among them, and no supplier on this page states which one a plan roams onto. That assignment can change without notice, so anyone promising a specific Nigerian network on a travel plan is guessing. How the signal behaves outside the major cities is not published by any supplier either, which is why this page offers no coverage map. Plan for the drive out of Port Harcourt or the road north toward Kano by saving offline maps before you set out. Data roaming in Nigeria on your home line is billed by your own carrier, and at business travel volumes a forgotten setting gets expensive. Switch cellular data off on that home line and let the travel line handle every byte. Cell phone service in Nigeria on your regular number keeps running for incoming calls and texts, so colleagues at home can still reach you in Abuja. Banking codes sent by text still reach that home number while the travel line carries data. Messaging apps and video calls work on an eSIM in Nigeria as soon as data flows, with no local number needed. If a client in Calabar needs a local number to ring, that calls for a local line.
