India eSIM

India overwhelms the senses with its scale - Himalayan foothills, Rajasthani forts, Keralan backwaters, Goan beaches and chaotic, glorious cities. Getting an Indian SIM the traditional way means passport copies, photos and a day or two of waiting for activation. An India eSIM skips all of that: scan a QR code at the gate, connect to Jio or Airtel LTE, and you are online the moment you land at Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru. Book an Uber or Ola, message your hotel on WhatsApp, navigate the old city lanes, or check train times on IRCTC - all without the bureaucracy of a local SIM. No paperwork, no roaming bill from your home carrier, no waiting. Choose a plan in GB and days, install in two minutes, and arrive connected.

Why an India eSIM Beats Local SIM Hassle

India is famous for SIM bureaucracy - foreigners need passport copies, photos, a local address and sometimes a 24-hour activation wait. An India eSIM eliminates all of it with one flat prepaid price and instant activation. You get Jio or Airtel LTE across metros, tourist circuits and most towns. Activation happens before you board - scan the QR, install the profile, switch on data as you taxi to the gate. The same plan covers Delhi, the Golden Triangle, Goa beaches, Kerala backwaters and Himalayan hill stations without any local SIM shop visit.

Skip the SIM registration ordeal

Getting a tourist SIM in India means submitting passport and visa copies, a photo, and often waiting up to 24 hours for activation. An eSIM activates in 60 seconds with zero paperwork - a huge time saver on arrival.

Instant activation at DEL, BOM and BLR

Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), Bengaluru (BLR), Chennai (MAA) and Goa (GOI) airports all have strong Jio and Airtel LTE. The eSIM auto-connects within 60 seconds of landing, so you can book an Uber or Ola before clearing the terminal.

Indian Carriers: Jio and Airtel

India is dominated by two excellent networks. Reliance Jio has the largest 4G and 5G footprint, reaching deep into rural India, hill stations and tourist circuits with famously cheap, fast data. Bharti Airtel is a close competitor with superb metro and highway coverage and strong 5G in cities. Both are far ahead of the smaller Vi (Vodafone Idea). Our eSIM plans use Jio or Airtel for the widest, fastest coverage across the country.

Jio for nationwide reach

Jio reaches astonishingly far - Himalayan towns like Leh and Manali, Rajasthani desert villages, Keralan backwater hamlets. For travel beyond the metros, Jio coverage is the most dependable.

5G in the metros

Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata have extensive Jio and Airtel 5G. Speeds in city centers are genuinely fast - great for uploading travel content or video calls home.

How Much Data You Need

India is a data-friendly country - locals stream constantly thanks to cheap plans. A one-week Golden Triangle trip with Maps and WhatsApp needs less than a month of backpacking from the Himalayas to Kerala. As rough planning: short trips use 1-1.5 GB per day, explorers with Maps, rideshare and translation use 1.5-2.5 GB, and content creators uploading video need 3 GB+. Most travelers fit a 10-day trip in a 10 GB plan.

5 GB / 7 days - Golden Triangle plan

Best for Delhi, Agra and Jaipur with day trips. Mobile data covers Uber and Ola rides, hotel WhatsApp, monument bookings and offline Maps for the old city lanes.

10 GB / 15 days - Explorer plan

Most popular for a multi-region trip - Golden Triangle plus Goa or Kerala. Plenty for constant navigation, IRCTC train checks, translation apps and daily uploads.

20 GB / 30 days - Long stay

Ideal for a month of backpacking or a digital nomad stint. Covers heavy tethering, video calls and content uploads from Goa, Rishikesh or a Bengaluru co-working space.

Setup Before You Land

Install your India eSIM at home over Wi-Fi so you arrive ready - and skip the entire local SIM registration process. Open the QR code from your eSIMCenter email, scan it from your phone eSIM settings, name the profile something like India Jio, and toggle data ON. Most travelers do this the night before departure. When you land at DEL, BOM or BLR, simply enable data roaming on the India eSIM profile - LTE connects within 60 seconds.

iPhone (iOS 16+)

Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM > Use QR Code. Scan from another screen, label the line India, set Cellular Data to the new line on arrival. Keep your home line for SMS and 2FA - just disable its data roaming.

Android (Pixel, Samsung S22+)

Settings > Network > SIMs > Add SIM > Download a SIM instead. Scan QR code, accept activation, set Mobile Data to the new SIM upon landing. Takes about 90 seconds.

Coverage Across India

India coverage is among the best-value in the world thanks to fierce Jio-Airtel competition. All metros have extensive LTE and 5G. The Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur), Goa, Kerala, the Himalayan hill stations and the major tourist circuits all have strong Jio and Airtel LTE. Even remote areas - Ladakh, the Northeast, desert Rajasthan - have surprising reach on Jio, though deep wilderness and high mountain passes can drop.

The Golden Triangle and North

Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Varanasi and Amritsar all have excellent coverage. The Taj Mahal, forts and old city bazaars have full LTE for navigation, bookings and photos.

Goa, Kerala and the South

Goa beaches, Kerala backwaters (Alleppey, Kumarakom), Bengaluru and Chennai have strong, fast data. Backwater houseboats generally have signal along the main routes.

Himalayas and remote regions

Hill stations like Manali, Shimla, Rishikesh and Darjeeling have solid Jio LTE. Ladakh and high passes have patchy coverage - download offline Maps before heading into the mountains.

Pro Tips for India Travel Data

India runs on apps, and a data connection unlocks everything. Uber and Ola dominate rides in cities. WhatsApp is the universal communication tool - hotels, drivers, guides all use it. UPI payment apps (though usually needing an Indian bank) and Google Pay are everywhere. IRCTC handles train bookings. Google Maps and offline maps are essential for the chaotic street layouts. The emergency number is 112.

Uber and Ola for safe city travel

In Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and most cities, Uber and Ola are far safer and clearer-priced than street autos. Your data-only eSIM runs both perfectly, with fares and routes tracked in-app.

WhatsApp is the universal connector

Hotels, tour guides, drivers and shops all communicate via WhatsApp in India. Save it before you go and use the calling feature - your eSIM is data-only and WhatsApp calls cost nothing this way.

Offline Maps for the old cities

The lanes of Old Delhi, Varanasi and Jaipur are a beautiful maze. Download offline Google Maps tiles for your cities so navigation works flawlessly even where the signal dips between tall buildings.
