eSIM Réunion Plans and Prices
A Réunion eSIM connects your phone from the moment you land at Saint-Denis, without buying a local SIM and without relying on the roaming terms of your carrier at home. It installs before the long flight and switches on at an island network, while your own number stays in the phone. Saint-Denis, Saint-Pierre, Saint-Paul, Le Tampon and Saint-André all draw on one island plan, so a search for eSIM Saint-Pierre returns the same list above. Réunion is a French department in the Indian Ocean and part of the EU, yet a Europe plan bought for a Paris trip does not name the island. What follows covers plan choice for the coast and the cirques, what internet in Réunion looks like on a travel line, and the setup steps to finish at home.
Internet in Réunion With an eSIM
The French regulator ARCEP has authorised four operators, Orange, SRR, Telco OI and Zeop Mobile, to use mobile frequencies on the island, which is unusual for a territory of this size. No plan here says which of the four carries it, so the count is background, not a way to choose. The island's networks have authorised 5G sites, but every plan in the list is sold as 4G, and we do not promise 5G. Réunion is mountainous and the interior is thinly built, so whether a signal reaches into Mafate or Cilaos depends on the network behind the plan. Data roaming in Réunion is where the island's EU status gets complicated. The European Commission treats outermost regions such as Réunion as an integral part of the EU, where EU law applies. ARCEP states that the EU roaming regulation does not cover trips within French territory, so a mainland French contract relies on French law instead, and ARCEP says those provisions apply equally to overseas roaming. We found no official statement covering a contract from another EU country on the island, so check your own tariff before relying on it. Cell phone service in Réunion on your usual number carries on for calls and texts with its data off, so a guesthouse in Cilaos can still reach you. Internet calling runs on the travel line like any other app.
Buy an eSIM for Réunion
Before you buy an eSIM for Réunion, dial star hash 06 hash and check that an EID appears alongside the IMEI. Most iPhones from the XR onward carry eSIM hardware, while the iPhone X, the first generation SE and many budget Android phones do not. The handset must also be unlocked, which is a job for your carrier before the flight rather than for anyone on the island. Checkout delivers a QR code, and scanning it on home wifi the night before the Indian Ocean flight installs the profile without starting its clock. Most plans count days from their first connection to a Réunion network, so the long journey out does not eat into them. When you land, switch the travel line on and allow data roaming for it, then wait a moment for it to register. An eSIM card for Réunion is tied to the handset it was installed on, and unlike a plastic card it cannot be pulled out of a stolen phone. A Réunion SIM card from one of the four local operators is the route to a local number, bought in person on the island. A Réunion prepaid SIM card suits a long stay, while an e-SIM for Réunion is simpler for a holiday. Setting up an eSIM in Réunion at home means you land connected, whether driving out of Saint-Denis or heading up to Le Tampon.
Best eSIM for Réunion
The best eSIM for Réunion depends on whether you are here for a week of beaches around Saint-Paul or a longer stretch of hiking in the cirques. A coastal week of maps, messaging and photos is light work for a small plan, while days on the trails around Cilaos push up photo uploads in the evening. Roamify is the only supplier on this page with unlimited plans, and it runs from a single day to a month with capped plans up to 20 GB. A Réunion eSIM unlimited data option from Roamify suits remote workers or anyone who would rather not track usage. Esimaccess mirrors that one to thirty day span, with capped plans also reaching 20 GB but no unlimited choice. Yesim sells a fifteen day plan with 5 GB, a fit for a fortnight that leans on hotel wifi. Esimfly offers one fifteen day plan with 2 GB for the lightest users. No plan here runs past a month, so a longer stay means buying again. Réunion sits in the Africa grouping of this catalogue, not the Europe one, so any wider plan covering it is an Africa plan. For most trips, a Réunion travel eSIM sold for the island itself is the straightforward buy.
