Which Island You Are On Changes More Than Which Cape Verde eSIM You Buy
Most destinations give you a coverage figure and a list of carriers, but Cabo Verde is an archipelago served by two operators, so the useful question is not how good the network is nationally, it is what happens on the particular island you are flying to. Whether you searched for a Praia eSIM or a Mindelo eSIM, the plans on this page answer both.
Compare Every Plan for Cape Verde
Twenty four plans for Cape Verde. That is the number the plan list above shows, and it counts both Cape Verde only plans and wider regional plans that include Cape Verde, because you can buy either from this page. Figures come from the live plan list and change when suppliers reprice.
Roamify: validity out to 30 days
This runs to 30 days, level with the longest here. Entry from 11.99 dollars, about 6.05 dollars per gigabyte at best value. Unlimited options available.
Airalo: the cheapest data, at 4.70 dollars per gigabyte
About 4.70 dollars per gigabyte at best value, the lowest rate on this page. Entry from 17.00 dollars, validity 7 to 30 days. No unlimited option.
Esimfly: the lowest entry price, 10.74 dollars
The lowest entry price on this page at 10.74 dollars. About 10.74 dollars per gigabyte at best value, validity 7 to 7 days. No unlimited option.
The Market Has Exactly Two Operators
Cabo Verde is served by CVMóvel, the mobile arm of CVTelecom, and by Unitel T+. Two operators is unusual, and it means there is no third network to fall back on if the one your plan uses is weak where you are staying.
Two networks, and no third to fall back on
CVMovel, the mobile arm of CVTelecom, and Unitel T+ are the whole market. The practical consequence is that if the network behind your card is weak where you are staying, there is no third one to switch to. That is an argument for buying a short card first and topping up, rather than committing to a long one before you know how it performs.
Which of the two your plan uses
No card here names which of the two it uses, and the catalogue field that would carry it holds the same placeholder for every product. With only two networks in the country that matters more than it would elsewhere, and nothing published closes the gap.
One Number for Ten Islands Would Be Meaningless
Cabo Verde has ten islands, nine of them inhabited, spread across roughly 1,500 kilometres of Atlantic. A national coverage percentage averages Santiago and Sal together with Brava and Santo Antao, and the average describes none of them.
The regulator measures island by island, and so should you
ARME does not publish one national coverage verdict. Its assessment documents are issued per island, including a dedicated quality of service evaluation for Sao Nicolau, alongside a separate coverage assessment covering the GSM, UMTS and LTE networks. That structure is itself the finding: the body responsible for measuring coverage treats each island as its own case, because treating them as one would not be informative.
Nobody publishes signal on the trails or the crossings
Coverage assessment covers settlements and networks, not the places people come to Cabo Verde for. There is no published data on signal along the Santo Antao ridge walks, on the interior tracks of Fogo, or on the ferry crossings between islands. We are not going to convert a settlement figure into a claim about a mountain path or an open channel. Download offline maps before you leave the town.
Sizing the Bundle When You Move Between Islands
Island hopping changes the data question. You are not using a steady amount each day, you are using very little on a beach and a great deal on the days you travel, when you are checking ferry times, rebooking flights and messaging accommodation. The plan does not change by island or by town, so Praia, Mindelo, Santa Maria and Espargos draw on one purchase. What changes is how much you use on the days you move between them.
Travel days cost more than beach days
Plan around the moving days rather than the average. Maps, ferry and airline apps, and the messages that follow a delay account for most of a typical trip allowance, and they cluster on the two or three days you change island. If your itinerary has several of those days, size upward rather than buying the bundle that would suit a stay in one place.
Short first plan, then decide
Because single day options exist in this catalogue, one workable approach is a small plan for the arrival day and the first island, then a longer one once you know how your own usage behaves here. It costs a little more in total than guessing correctly, and considerably less than guessing high.
Sort This Out on the Mainland
Three things decide whether the plan you bought is the plan you can use, and none of them can be fixed after you land.
Phone, profile, days
Your phone must support eSIM and must not be carrier locked, which is the single most common reason a purchase turns out to be unusable. Install the profile at home while you still have a connection you trust: installation and activation are separate steps, so it does not start the validity period. Our installation guide walks through the iPhone and Android steps at esimcenter.com/setup. Then match the day count to the trip with a day of margin, because validity runs in calendar days from activation rather than days of use. On an island itinerary, leave margin for a ferry or flight that slips.
Where the Plan Stops Short
These are data plans. Two consequences follow, and they cover most of what people ask afterwards.
Calls, messages and your own number
No Cabo Verde plan here includes calls or texts over the mobile network, and none gives you a local number. Internet calling works normally, which matters here because ferry operators and smaller guesthouses often expect a phone call rather than a message. Your home SIM can stay active for calls on your own number; switch its data roaming off before you arrive.
Tethering, and what happens when it runs out
Tethering works and draws on the same allowance, so a laptop will move through a bundle much faster than a phone will. When the data is gone the connection simply stops, with no per megabyte charge afterwards. Buying a replacement needs a connection, which is the awkward part, so installing a second small plan before you travel is cheap insurance: an installed plan costs nothing until you activate it.
